*ADOPTION PENDING* GEORGE - Almost 2 yrs old as of April, 2008 We are not sure whether George is an Akbash or Pyr. He has all the characteristics of the Akbash so may be a purebred Akbash. We have recently found out that there is someone breeding Akbash in Louisiana. Whatever he is, George is really mellow and laid back. Twice a day he gets in play mode with his foster brother and sister, Boomer and Annie. He is great on the lead and he would love to be a lap dog! It's too funny cause he is so BIG! He is awesome with all the kids in the neighborhood. We are working on sit and he has not barked much, which is a nice change since Boomer barks at everything. LOL He hasn't had any accidents in the house either. He loves cuddling and taking naps too. Whoever adopts him will be very lucky. Unlike most dogs, we highly recommend that you have children of any age with this big guy! He was an escape artist in his old home but since he has other dogs to play with, we haven't had one problem with him trying to escape. A securely fence area and/or other dogs to keep him company if you are not home will keep him safe.

MOLLY - 1 year old as of April, 2008 Molly made 1 year old on May 2, 2008. She is a very sweet girl now but when she arrived in rescue at 4 months old she was a holy terror. She had no idea that humans were supposed to be in charge and she was to listen to them (as well as a livestock guardian dog WILL listen to a human). Her nickname was "Tasmanian Devil". She did not know that she was not to put her teeth on humans either. 8 months have passed since Molly came and she has turned out to be the most wonderful dog you could ever ask for. She is very loving and really enjoys being hugged and petted and likes to snuggle in bed or on the sofa to watch TV with her humans. She is still an Alpha personality but does realize that she is only Alpha after her humans. She gets along wonderfully with the other 17 dogs here and loves to play. Being Pyrs, all the dogs here play rough but no one ever gets hurt. Molly is great with children of all ages. She is very social with other animals and very curious when she meets animals she has never seen before. She would need to be introduced to cats as we don't have any cats here. Once she realizes that the cats belong to her new family and belong there, she will protect them as she does her humans. Molly will be happiest with someone who can be an effective leader so she doesn't feel that she has to run things. She will also do well with another dog to play with.

PENNY - Approx. 2 to 2 1/2 yrs old as of April, 2008 Penny is a 1-1/2 year old Pyr/Maremma mix (both livestock guardian dogs). The Pyrenees come from France and the Maremma come from Italy). She was raised in the fields with goats and other livestock from puppyhood but has decided that she would rather be inside with the humans instead of outside with the animals. She loves people, is wonderful with children, but doesn't like big male dogs. She gets along great with female dogs and small males. We are looking for a home as a pet for Penny. She has a very protective instinct and wants to protect any animal or human she feels is hers to guard. She would make a wonderful, loyal pet . She is great with children and cats. This is one dog that we would keep if we didn't already have so many of our own. She is housebroken, heartworm negative and beautiful. In size, she is about average for a Maremma and has that wonderful short coat (in comparison to a Pyr's coat) that does not matt up. She is a beautiful, sweet girl.

PRINCESS - 13 months old as of April, 2008 Princess is an all around great girl! At approximately1-1/2 years old, she is extremely active for a livestock guardian breed and loves doing active things like jumping over the sofa without touching it! We think she would make an excellent agility dog. She is very smart and learns quickly. She is very loving and gets along well with other dogs. She would have to have other dogs to play with if she did not have other outlets for her energy. She does enjoy snuggling with her humans and is happiest when she is playing or doing things with her humans. She is not very big, as lgds go, but she is protective of her home and property. If you are looking for a dog to go on hikes, do agility, or play, Princess is the dog for you. You will never have to be afraid of walking by yourself in remote places when you have her with you. This girl is a very happy dog. |

SASHA - 4-5 years old as of April, 2008 The only reason we say that Sasha is Pyr/Old English Sheepdog is her beautiful tail and double dew claws. This girl needs a lot of love and understanding and human(s) willing to build her confidence in them. Sasha is a wonderful girl but has obviously had a very hard life with humans. We don't know what her life was like but you can see that she really wants to be with you but she is afraid. Once you make friends with her, she is yours forever. Sasha is about 4 or 5 years old. She has learned to get along with the other 17 dogs here but only REALLY LOVES the little resident Pomeranian. She would be very happy in a home that would give her the opportunity to care for any little dogs. She is a very gentle soul and great with them. it is hilarious to watch her trying to play with the Pom. We don't know about cats but she would probably be excellent with them also. She seems to feel like she has to protect her human from bigger dogs. |
